=============
Some of you may remember when I posted the results for Abraham Piper’s Bible Version Poll.
Well Jon Acuff, over at Stuff Christian’s Like, posted this question yesterday: Who is the best living Christian Author?
He’s gotten more than 300 comments and just like AP’s post, I couldn’t help myself but start tallying.
So first Disclaimers, then Notables, then the results:
Disclaimers:
– These results include a bit more than the first 24 hours of comments, and I may have missed a few answers in reply comments.
– Some of the comments may have been . . . less than serious
– Also I (or the commenters) might have misspelled a name. I tried to put them in as I saw them.
– Obviously, you couldn’t have a more scientific poll method. You can take these results to the bank.
– My response is not here, largely because I don’t know what I would say.
– I didn’t tally the zombie writers.
Notable In The Results:
– 145 Names
– About 2/3rds had only one vote.
– 100th person nominated: Greg Boyd
– Most Interesting Votes: Pete Docter (from Pixar, right?), John Grisham, Stephen King and, of course, Yahweh.
– I am humbled as I look at these results, because I see that I am completely ignorant about several good authors.
– If you tallied up the un-votes (those with less than positive things to say) I’m guessing Pastor Piper would have been lower on the list.
– Jon A. managed to get a dozen votes, despite the fact that he pretty much declared himself off limits. Impressive.

Chris
I’m surprised at how many authors of false teachings are on the list.

Not certain who I would vote for. But amongst those I enjoy who write specifically Christian material would be
Jonathan Sarfati
Wayne Grudem
Dale Ralph Harris
Rodney Stark

Saw your link on Stuff Christians Like.
Who’s YOUR favorite living Christian writer?
Here’s an interesting vote I didn’t see on the list: Marilynne Robinson. Ever heard of her?
If you have a second, check out my blog at FacesOfLions.wordpress.com. I’d love to hear what you think.

I guess I’d have to say John Piper, but I’m biased, because he’s my pastor.

Surprised John Ortberg & Bill Hybels didn’t get more votes, and that Andy Stanley didn’t get a single one.

I agree that there were some surprises in the single vote category.

Speaking of CS Lewis, where is he on this list? He’s inspired just about everyone on here. (Except Yahweh of course)

I think the list was for best “living” Christian author… hence why C.S. Lewis doesn’t show up!

I am somewhat saddened by the lack of female writers on this list. Out of the top 25 authors, only two of them were women. Does that say something about Christians authors? Is there a lack of Christian female authors? I’m not saying the authors on this list are not important but I think it’s important to note the trend in this list.
