Perhaps, as you are considering your Thanksgiving Get Together, you are fearing a likely conversation with an individual who has a very different world view. You’re afraid you won’t know how to respond to him/her when he/she makes the strong statement that you disagree with – should you make your disagreement known or let it slide?

Try this:

Often when a person has a strong opinion, there is a story behind why they believe it. Ask them what the story is.

Often they will be happy to tell you, and your relationship will be strengthened as you learn about their motivations.
